Arts ISIT Resources

Start tracking your website performance and presence with Google Analytics by setting up an account and creating a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property.

If you are currently using a Univeral Analytics property, see our instructions on how to back up your data prior to creating one for GA4.

Consider using Google Search Console and connecting it to your Google Analytics dashboards to monitor and troubleshoot your website’s presence in Google Search results.

We recommend creating a separate Google Account for your department/unit to access.

  1. Create a Google account
  2. Sign in to Google Analytics

Some data that might be beneficial for you to back up include:

  • Pageviews
  • Unique Pageviews
  • Avg. Time on Page
  • Bounce Rate
  • % Exit

The above data can be acquired through an export of the Behaviour > Site Content > All Pages report in your Analytics dashboard. The instructions to export the report are below:

  1. Log into your Google Analytics account to see your dashboard
  2. Navigate to Behaviour > Site Content > All Pages to see the Pages report
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Show Rows dropdown and select a fairly large number (ie. if you have 700 pages on your site, select 1000 rows to export) to show all pages on the report
  4. Scroll to the top and change the date range of the report to look at least one year back of the current date, with a date range of two years of data also acceptable
  5. Scroll up to the top and click on Export > CSV to generate the report

  1. Identify whether you have a Universal Analytics property or a Google Analytics 4 property
  2. If you have a UA property, set up a new GA4 property for your site
  3. When you get to the step “Set up data collection,” click the yellow View tag instructions button near the bottom of the screen
  4. Click the install manually tab and copy the script. The script will look something like this: <!– Google tag (gtag.js) –> <script async…></script>
  5. Contact the Arts ISIT Help Desk at arts.helpdesk@ubc.ca with the copy of your script so we can add it to your site
