Describe what you do at Arts ISIT

I support faculty and staff in the Faculty of Arts by delivering innovative IT solutions for their everyday issues. Additionally, I take care of software maintenance in Arts lab spaces and provide training and guidance to Support Coordinators and Work Learn Student staff.

What is the best thing about the work you do at Arts ISIT?

There is never a dull moment working at Arts ISIT! My position involves tackling a diverse range of tasks, spanning from basic to complex, across various systems and services. This requires a combination of critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness to ensure that our clients can rely on us for their needs. Collaborating with amazing colleagues, I value the positive impact our assistance has on the Faculty of Arts and UBC as a whole.

What are your areas of expertise?

During my undergraduate studies in Engineering Physics at UBC, Systems Engineering stood out as the most captivating subject. It can be described as a methodical and holistic approach that encompasses the creation, installation, support, and life cycle of computing systems. This educational background has empowered me to become a proficient subject matter expert in multiple services supported by the Help Desk, including:

  • Lab maintenance, upgrades, and deployment
  • Computer (desktop & laptop) support and troubleshooting
  • Computer hardware
  • FASmail and related services (ie. OneDrive, Teams, etc.)
  • Exchange role management (ie. Teamshare, AIR access, etc.)

Can you share some of your personal interests or hobbies?

If you’ve ever participated in Chinese New Year festivities in Vancouver, you might have spotted me in the Chinatown parade or in a mall performing lion dancing. I got into kung fu at a young age and picked up lion dancing as a result. Although I’ve stopped training, I still participate in lion dance events mainly taking on the role of the drummer.

I also trained and competed in mixed martial arts with the intent to make a career out of it, but it was too physically demanding. Instead, I am now a frequent gym enjoyer with personal records of 545lb dead lift, 365lb squat, and a 315lb bench press.

My other hobbies include cooking, playing video games, watching anime, attending music events, and cheering on the Vancouver Canucks!
