Interview

What year did you begin to work at Arts ISIT?

2013

Describe what you do at Arts ISIT

I support a range of teaching, learning, and technology projects across the Faculty of Arts, helping out in various ways such as providing proposal development, budgeting, learning design and evaluation support.

One of the main areas I focus on, especially from September through November, is consulting with faculty and staff to assist in developing Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) projects in Arts.

In addition, in my role as Liaison, I also serve as a bridge between Arts ISIT and the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), helping to build relationships and coordinate support for projects across units.

What is the best thing about the work you do at Arts ISIT?

I enjoy talking to faculty at the beginning of a project when they are just starting to explore a new idea and then helping them articulate a plan to get the support they need to bring it to fruition.

There are so many exciting and innovative ideas being explored across the Faculty of Arts, and I love getting the opportunity to learn more about them and help out however I can. I also appreciate the opportunity to work across such a wide range of disciplines with people who are experts in their fields and passionate about their work. I had a difficult time picking a major when I was younger because I was interested in too many things, so I enjoy the opportunity that I have now to be exposed to such a variety of subjects daily. There’s always something new to learn.

What are your areas of expertise?

I have a background in adult education, instructional design and digital media. For most of my career, I’ve been involved with online and distance education, supporting instructors with course design across different modalities and integrating learning technologies into their teaching. In my current position, I’ve become more involved in supporting innovation projects through the various stages of ideation, project planning, budgeting and evaluation.

Can you share some of your personal interests or hobbies?

Although I’m interested in technology, I spend so much time sitting in front of a computer during the week that when I’m away from work, I like to spend most of my time being active and outdoors. I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer, and spending time in the mountains with my family, hiking in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.
