This workshop introduces the use of Generative AI to facilitate student research, specifically when planning and organizing a paper.
Participants will learn how to utilize AI tools to generate summaries of scholarly articles, aid in the brainstorming of an essay topic, and help plan an outline. The session will also cover key considerations and critical questions to evaluate the appropriateness of AI for students when conducting literature reviews.
This workshop has been designed for individuals with minimal prior experience with AI and aims to equip participants with practical skills and knowledge.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Use AI to create concise and accurate summaries of scholarly articles
- Use AI to help brainstorm potential essay topics
- Use AI to help produce an essay outline on a chosen topic
- Learn to assess the suitability of AI tools for these research tasks, considering the benefits and drawbacks for students, as well as various ethical or disciplinary-specific considerations
- Identify critical questions to ask when employing AI in literature reviews, including reliability, biases, and limitations
