Are you interested in learning about strategies other instructors are using to engage students, encourage peer interaction, and build classroom community?
In the last few years, many faculty members have expressed concern that students seem to be more disconnected, less engaged with their peers, and more reluctant to participate in classroom discussions. With more blended and multi-access courses being offered, many instructors are also thinking about the value of being in person and how to be more deliberate in their use of class time to help students connect and be present together.
In this panel session, instructors will discuss the topic of student engagement and share a range of practical approaches they are using to help build vibrant classroom communities.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Discuss some of the challenges instructors experience related to student engagement
- Describe some of the strategies other instructors in the Faculty of Arts to promote student engagement across different course modalities
- Consider how the approaches being shared could be modified to introduce into your own course
