UBC FASmail migrating to the cloud

UBC is preparing to migrate all faculty and staff email services (FASmail) from being hosted on-premises to the cloud platform Microsoft Exchange Online to improve email security and enhance UBC’s technology environment by integrating with other Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.

In response to the need for remote teaching and learning in June 2020, UBC proactively introduced Microsoft Teams and OneDrive, marking the initial phase of the campus-wide Microsoft 365 journey. As the next step in the M365 adoption journey, UBC is introducing a suite of M365 applications into our technology environment. This will pave the way for more integrated collaboration tools and streamlined workflows in the years ahead.

To get started, UBC is initiating the M365 Foundational Services Project to prepare for increased university-wide M365 adoption. This project involves migrating faculty and email service from on-premises to the cloud. This migration will enable UBC to take advantage of the latest email technology to ensure that our email system is secure, reliable, and integrated with other collaboration tools.

No action is required at this time and UBC is offering some information sessions this March to discuss the project and timelines with the UBC community.
