Peer to Peer Evaluation: Why do it, how to do it, and how technology can help – April 9, 2018

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research confirms the value of instructional strategies that require students to be more actively involved in the learning process. Peer learning—students learning with and from each other without any implied authority to any individual—has been at the core of the Arts One teaching model since the program’s birth in 1967. In this instructor led session Arts One/Political Science instructor Robert Crawford describes how and why peer to peer teaching in writing workshops and seminars transforms learning. He is joined by his colleague Andrew Owen, Political Science instructor, who will describe his experience with an online tool called ComPAIR and the Canvas teaching platform. Together these instructors will demonstrate experience and evidence based reasons to adopt peer learning, and present guidelines, including dos-and-don’ts, for using peer learning in the classroom.
