Interview

What year did you begin to work at Arts ISIT?

1995

Describe what you do at Arts ISIT

The Systems team is a mission‑critical team within Arts ISIT. It provisions, configures, operates, and secures the servers and core platforms hosted in EduCloud and maintains the Faculty’s networks so applications, data and services stay available, reliable, protected and secure. The team proactively applies security controls, patching, and monitoring, and recommends improvements that reduce risk and downtime.

Through responsive support and close collaboration with departments and units, the Systems team enables new initiatives, safeguards information, and keeps technology reliable and ready for what’s next.

What is the best thing about the work you do at Arts ISIT?

The best part of my work at Arts ISIT is enabling the Faculty to teach, research, and serve students without worrying about the technology underneath. I help provision and maintain the core infrastructure—servers in EduCloud and our networks—that keeps applications, data, and services secure and reliable.

I also love the collaboration—partnering with teams across Arts ISIT to plan, troubleshoot and improve systems means we solve problems faster, reduce risk, and make space for innovation that directly benefits instructors, staff, and students.

What are your areas of expertise?

Which services does your work relate to?

Please list some related projects/tools/resources you work on

  • Migration of all core servers from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9 (modernized core production servers to align with support lifecycles, strengthen security baselines, and improve performance and manageability)
  • Hybrid Cloud projects: AI assistant tool
  • CMDB: Asset management and automation
  • Cybersecurity initiatives: MyLogs
  • Systems reporting: VMS

Can you share some of your personal interests or hobbies?

Outside of work, my favourites include reading, listening to music, and spending time in nature. Weekends often mean walking and hiking through Pacific Spirit Park and wandering UBC’s gardens as a simple recharge.

Passionate about health and wellness, I also bring that focus into the kitchen, cooking seasonal dishes inspired by local gardens to add balance and creativity to the week.

For over 12 years, I’ve been volunteering at UBC Farm’s Saturday Markets, a commitment that connects me with community and keeps me rooted in local food and sustainability.
