Enrol in the Remote Teaching Demo Course
The Demo is a model Canvas course with an example course schedule, sample assessments, and instructor resources for online teaching, such as recommended strategies, helpful tips, and syllabus templates. The Demo can be viewed through self-enrolment in Canvas.

Import the Arts Remote Teaching Template
The Template provides a blank framework for online courses, as well as useful materials like student resources and surveys, which can be imported from Canvas Commons into your course shell. On Canvas, it is possible to either import all content from the Arts Remote Teaching Template or only import select pages, modules, or assignments. The guides below will explain how to do both, with more detailed instructions in the Canvas Commons Guide.
Importing All Content
- Log into canvas.ubc.ca.
- Go to Commons from the global navigation.
- In the search field, type "Arts Remote Teaching Template."
- Click on the course in the results.
- Under the Preview tab, you can view and navigate through the content in the template.
- Click on the Import/Download button.
- Select the course you would like to import the template into.
- Click Import into Course.
Note: If you download the content onto your computer from the Commons and upload it into your course shell as a cartridge, you will not be prompted to update it if the course from the Commons changes.
Importing Select Content
- Log into canvas.ubc.ca.
- Go to Commons from the global navigation.
- In the search field, type "Arts Remote Teaching Template."
- Click on the course in the results.
- Under the Preview tab, you can view and navigate through the content in the template
- Click on the Import/Download button
- Click on the Download button to download the course cartridge zip file
- Go to your course
- Click on Settings from your course menu
- Click on Import Course Content from the right sidebar
- From the "Content Type" drop-down menu, select Common Cartridge 1.x Package
- Click choose file and select the course cartridge zip file that you downloaded from the Commons
- Click Select specific content
- Click Import
- Under "Current Jobs", click on Select Content beside your import
- Select the content that you would like to import
- Click Select Content
