Developing a MOOC proposal

Funding for developing MOOCs on the edX platform has been made available to a limited number of courses through the Provost and Vice President Academic. In October 2013, in support of UBC’s flexible learning innovation efforts, the Provost and Vice President Academic announced the availability of funds for developing a limited number of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). From the thirteen proposals that were submitted, four courses were selected for funding, two of these from the Faculty of Arts.

Currently, no information is available for when the next call for funding will be released.  A notification will be sent to faculty members when the call for proposals has been announced.

Proposal Development

We have experience supporting the pedagogical design and technical implementation of MOOCs, having worked with the two Faculty of Arts courses that are currently on edX.  Arts ISIT staff are available to help faculty members in the development of MOOC proposals, including support for:

  • design of overall course structure and format
  • assessment strategy and options
  • design of video lectures and production alternatives
  • technical features of edX (what is possible)
  • production support for sample video lectures or other materials
